I attended the 2016 City Harvest annual kickoff meeting.  For those of you not familiar with the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society City Harvest Program, I encourage you to visit this page: http://phsonline.org/programs/city-harvest and watch the inspiring video.  I have been privileged to have been part of this organization for over 10 years.

At this meeting, City Harvest growers traded information, ate, drank, picked up their first distribution of seeds and supplies, were greeted by many of the PHS staff and City Harvest staff.  And, in addition to being brought up to date on everything going on with City Harvest, we were privileged to be given an absolutely fascinating presentation by Dan Kittredge, the Founder / Executive Director of the Bionutrient Food Association (BFA) – bionutrient.orgThe mission of the BFA is to increase quality in the food supply.  But, Dan spoke to us primarily about the critical issue of soil health and vitality which drives the quality of crop quality and the food supply. And, about the necessity of remineralizing soils with finely ground rock dust, sea minerals, and other natural and sustainable means to increase plant growth, health and nutrient value.

Dan started this journey when he realized that, as an organic farmer, he was not making much money, was dealing with plant diseases and pestsand was working 24 / 7. So, over the years, he developed bionutrient farming methods, which now allow him to farm his many acres spending only 20 hours a week – with exceptional produce yields, flavor and nutrition.

You can read more about his farm at http://organicconnectmag.com/project/dan-kittredge-farming-for-nutrient-quality/.
